The Northeast Nebraska Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council held its fun and interesting annual meeting on November 23rd. After a meal of delicious home-cooked food entertainment was provided by the RC&D’s own “Really Cool Dudes & Dame (alias Dennis Wacker, Dick Haskin and Jan Jorgensen). Everyone enjoyed folk songs from the 50’s and 60’s.
The Council approved their 2016-2017 Plan of Work and accepted a new project presented by Gary A. Van Meter of Randolph. He sees the need for a Nebraska Department of Energy Loan Workshop so more people can take advantage of the low-interest loans offered through this agency. These loans are applicable to public as well as private projects.
Current officers were all re-elected: Jim Rabe, President, Wayne; Dennis Wacker, Vice-President from Osmond; Janet Gill, Treasurer, Bloomfield; and Joan Alexander, Secretary of Plainview.
Volunteer appreciation awards went to three folks who provided outstanding assistance in 2015. Bob Huntley, Lower Elkhorn NRD representative of Norfolk, received the “Principle Properties Procurement Personnel” award. Bob saw to it that new toilets were installed, he made concrete anchors for the new canopies, purchased file cabinets for the office at auction, and he gathered up 5 gallon buckets for the weed management area’s Purple loosestrife bucket garden. CloAnn Shamblen got an “Atta Girl” award for her help throughout the season at the Amish booth during Farmers Market days. Dennis Wacker received an “Above & Beyond” award for his tireless service to the RC&D Council. He serves as staff supervisor, office handyman, in-house creative genius, Farmers Market supporter and more.
Jan Jorgensen, Project Manager, and Dick Haskin, Financial Manager were recognized for their work with the RC&D. Jan got a heaven-sent gift and Dick received the “Feel Good Warm & Fuzzy” package. Winter isn’t his favorite time of year so he got things to help warm him up!
The RC&D Council looks forward to continuing their service to citizens through projects that will make life better for people in Antelope, Cedar, Dixon, Knox, Pierce, and Wayne counties.
