HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE & E-WASTE RECYCLING EVENTS

Picture

The Northeast Nebraska Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council along with the communities of Niobrara, Hartington, Osmond and Neligh are hosting Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Recycling events on September 8th and 9th.   Additional support is being provided by the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and Cedar County.  The project is also funded in part by a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust.  These collection events are for households only, no businesses.

Participants will be asked for $10 per vehicle plus $10 for each TV to help with the cost of the project.  Times and locations are as follows:

Friday, September 8th, 2017: 1 – 3 p.m. in Niobrara at the Ponca Tribal Headquarters and 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in Hartington at the Transfer Station/Recycling Center

Saturday, September 9th, 2017: 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. in Osmond at the South Osmond area by the Dump Grounds and 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Neligh at their Transfer Station/Recycling Center

Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients are considered to be household hazardous waste (HHW).  Products, such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides that contain potentially hazardous ingredients require special care when being disposed of.  Red Willow County Household Hazardous Waste out of McCook, Nebraska is the contractor and is well-versed in the proper landing and disposal of these materials.  Some items brought in may be available for recycling or reuse to those who have need of them.

Nebraska Electronics Disposal will be taking care of the E-waste.  They are able to properly dispose of a large variety of electronic items including TVs, all computer equipment and peripherals, consumer electronics such as cell phones, stereo systems, etc., and batteries.  The contractor will tear down all the material and salvage what they can while properly disposing of the remainder.

Contact the Northeast Nebraska RC&D Council at 402-582-4866 or via email at northeastrcd@plvwtelco.net for more information.  The Council looks forward to continuing their service to citizens through projects that will make life better for people in Antelope, Cedar, Dixon, Knox, Pierce, and Wayne counties.
